Why StrategySOS exists
StrategySOS turns the Strategic Decision Model from a methodology into something a strategist can actually practice.
The Strategic Decision Model began as a way of thinking about strategy: identify the conditions that shape a situation, determine what can be changed, evaluate those possible changes, and make a strategic decision.
But a methodology on paper is not the same as practicing it.
A strategist can understand the theory and still interpret parts of it differently. They can also run out of the time, structure, or bandwidth needed to give every consideration the attention it deserves.
StrategySOS was built to address that gap.
The platform takes the elements of SDM and gives them a structured environment in which they can be worked through, evaluated, connected and carried forward. It helps the strategist consider the full model without turning the strategist into a passenger.
The methodology provides the thinking. StrategySOS provides the environment in which that thinking can be practiced.
The second reason StrategySOS exists is alignment.
The Strategic Decision Model describes how strategy can be connected across an organization. But defining alignment as a concept is different from being able to work with it in practice.
In StrategySOS, strategy is built through the organizational levels: Corporate, Business and Functional.
Each level has to make sense in relation to the one above it. Strategic direction has to carry through. Dependencies have to be visible. A Functional Strategy should not become an isolated exercise that happens after the corporate strategy is finished.
And alignment does not stop when the strategy is written.
The Planning Station carries that same logic into execution. Functional Plans are connected to their Functional Strategies and their dependencies on other functions can be accounted for, so execution does not become a collection of disconnected departmental plans.
The objective is not simply to create a strategy. It is to maintain coherence from strategic decision to execution.
AI adds another layer to the system.
StrategySOS can use AI to draft, analyze, challenge and extend strategic thinking. But AI does not decide what matters or determine what the organization should do.
The strategist remains in control.
The system provides the structure. The strategist retains the control.
The definition the entire platform is built around.
SDM defines strategy as:
Strategy is an idea that employs the most relevant and effective parameters of change which, when brought into effect, can produce the desired outcome.
The model and the thinking behind it are explained in the SDM white paper.
